Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at ellery@elderlytreeisland.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Embarking on a journey with Iboga is perhaps the most rigorous night of one's life. This is not a recreational experience or a "party drug"; it is a disciplined, individual dialogue between you and the medicine. Prospective seekers must approach the plant with "humble requests" and the courage to face the truth of their own reflection.

Iboga is medicine. The active ingredient of Iboga is spirit. Iboga and ibogaine have been used ceremonially and medicinally for centuries.

However, we do not diagnose, treat, or cure conditions. We do not offer detox ceremonies with Iboga, and encourage you to contact Basse Root if that is the service you are desiring.

Yes, we will have nurses present during the ceremony.

Yes. Iboga is known for its depth and duration. Participants should expect intensity, internal confrontation, strong physical sensations, and heightened awareness.

We are autistic individuals ourselves. Many autistic individuals feel called to this work, but have not found spaces designed with their needs in mind.

Iboga is for all people. However, there are medical and personal factors that may make participation unsafe or not the right fit for the program. Iboga is very time- and preparation-intensive, and if not initially eligible, participants may reach out later. Screening is required.

Elderly Tree Island is a unique provider of iboga, different in everyway. The emphasis on autistic accessibility, individual and personalized, small ceremonies, preparation, ethical sourcing, and cultural respect, moving away from more clinical therapeutic settings.
